Your homework tonight is to answer the following open response question. AND to study for your test.

The scientific method is used to solve not only science inquiries, but also every day problems. It provides an orderly progression of steps for working through those issues that may otherwise tend to frustrate us or simply intrigue us.

1. Describe a situation in your everyday life that you might struggle to find a solution to.

2. Explain how you would use the scientific method to find a solution to the situation described above.

Presentations are complete for the most part. Morning classes have 1 more group to go. Was an interesting day. We’ll have those up and ready to watch by the end of the weekend. Sorry, guys. It takes some time.

If you’re interested in working on the new North Marshall 7th Grade website, please respond to this post.  Make sure you include an email address so that I can get a list started and we can get going.

Today was prep day for Scientific Method skits tomorrow.  Should be interesting, considering the ideas that were floating around.  Can’t wait to see the skits!  Which will be on the website after Labor Day.

Test Friday, guys.  Don’t forget!

Today, we dissolved gummi bears.  Made a big gooey mess, we did.  The kids had a good time and seemed to try really hard. I was so impressed with how well they were thinking things through.  Lab went well and at the end of the day, the room is cleaner than when we started.  That’s pretty impressive!

Got some pictures of some classes, but not all.  I was trying to do too many jobs at once, I guess.  I’ll try to get them posted soon.

Next on our agenda – Scientific Method skits.

August 31 – Homework

August 31, 2010

Your homework is to complete the Gummi Bear Lab Debriefing page.  Remember that your lab worksheet and your debriefing must be turned in tomorrow. You can get another copy of the lab debriefing by clicking below.

Today, we started filling out our review sheet.  Most of us finished, so that should be about ready to go.  I gave a suggestion about creating cards for studying for the test.  I really think it helps.  If you need the review sheet, it’s right below.  So is the powerpoint we used in class.

We looked at our lab for tomorrow.  I’ll post the link to the lab below so you can look at it.  Be sure you know what question you’re going to be asking.  That will help speed up the process.

We also talked about our scientific method commercial, which I’ll also attach here.  We work on them Wednesday and perform on Thursday.

My Creative Kiddos

August 27, 2010

On Thursday, the kids were to come up with an acronym for the steps of the scientific method.  They had two different versions to choose from. The one that most of them used was the one on the board – Problem, Research, Hypothesis, Design Experiment, Test Hypothesis, Gather Data, Conclusion.  Some of these were too great to pass up.  So I’m putting them here. ;)

People ride horse due to gravitational collisions.

Pink rabbits hide down the green chamber.

Please ride home down the graveled corner.

Princesses run here during the George Strait convention.

Pink rabbit has done taught good classes.

Panthers ride helicopters down the giant cliffs.

Pam rides her dog to good colleges.

Purple Rupert has denied the granny cannibal.

Pink reindeer hop down the green courtyard.

August 27th – In Class

August 27, 2010

Homework turned in, openers taken up, notes completed, and Mystery Bag activity FINALLY done.  The plan for next week will be posted before the end of the weekend.

I have to say how impressed I am with the 7th grade.  They know how to act in the hall and follow directions EXCELLENTLY in lab.  What an awesome group of students.
