Learning Target – I can model and explain moon phases and eclipses. (for the last time, I promise!)

Today, we finished modeling the moon phases and eclipses using flashlights and spheres.  You guys did a really good job!  Morning classes have a sheet on the moon phases to complete.  Afternoon classes have a sheet on eclipses.  It shouldn’t be too tough.

Everybody has a graph to do.  We’re all graphing the predicted his and lows for the first 10 days of November.  Please remember to show your work on finding your scale and range.

Learning Target – I can explain and model moon phases and eclipses.

Today, we went over homework from last Thursday night and made corrections as we needed.  We also went over the moon phases, which seem to be causing us some problems.  Two classes started the lab and will finish tomorrow.  The other classes will do the lab tomorrow.

The test will be on Friday or Monday.  I’m not quite sure yet, but it will be Monday at the latest.  I’ll try to get the study guide up this evening, but it’s Halloween and I have a little one with plans to run out the neighborhood at his grandparents.  We’ll just have to see how that turns out!

In third period today, we talked about downloading chapters of the textbook to your iPhones, iPads, iPods, etc.  The first thing you’ll need is a pdf reader app.  You can get Adobe Reader for free.  If you type “Adobe Reader” into your app search, it should be the first one to come up.

After that, you’ll need to install iBooks. Then, all you’ll have to do is to come here and click on the link for the chapter. When you pull it up, you’ll see at the top a button that says something like, “Open in iBooks.”  Just click on it and it will open and be available for you from then on.  Here’s the first one:

Earth, Moon, Sun chapter

Learning Target

Third period is the same as yesterday since we didn’t finish our lab.

1st & 2nd – I can graph data for tides.

4th and 5th – I can identify and model moon phases.

Man, we were everywhere today.  First and Second had to redo their graphs.  Third finished their MandM bug lab.  Fourth and Fifth worked on Moon phases.

Homework’s just as complicated.

1st & 2nd – Some of you have a new graph to do.  Everyone has an eclipse sheet to do.

3rd – You have to graph your MandM bug captures and do the eclipse sheet.

4th & 5th – You have a sheet on the Moon phases to finish.

Learning Targets

All classes but 3rd – I can model revolution and rotation in the solar system.

3rd – Who won the lab for most registered people on the site – I can model capture/recapture practices used in real life situations.

Most classes worked on understanding the difference between rotation and revolution, which we still seem to be struggling with.  Afternoon classes went outside to do it.  Alot of fun!

3rd period played with MandM bugs.  They’ll have to finish tomorrow.  Hopefully those bugs won’t get away.

Learning Target – I can explain how moon phases affect the tides on Earth.

We finished our graph today from Friday.  You should have your graph in hand as you start doing your homework today.  If you need the information from the Graphing Basics Poster, I’ve posted it for you.  Remember, you’ll have to refigure your scale for your homework.  If you want to see how to do that, look below the notes on Graphing Basics.  I’ve put up an image of what we did in class for you to use as a reference.

If you need the data table, let me know and I’ll post it for you.  Remember, your graphing Seaside Wharf.

Notes on finding Scale

Learning Target – I can explain how moon phases affect tides.

We looked at our homework from last Thursday night in order to make some corrections to answers. My concern is that while homework scores were not good, no one asked about help on the assignments.  When I started asking questions in class, people said they didn’t understand the questions.  Guys, if you don’t understand, please check with me to get help.

We also looked at the open response for the day, which is on choosing the best moon phase for gathering shells at the beach.

Tomorrow will be busy, finishing up our graph from last Friday and getting ready for homework.  We have a lab on Wednesday.

Your test will be next Thursday at this point in time.  Please start watching for the online study guide.

Learning Target – I can explain how moon phases affect tides.

Today, we looked at tides and moon phases and started filling out a chart on the tides in different locations so we can make predictions about how it all works together.  If you’d like to take a look at the interactive we used in class, you can find it here.

Ocean Motion

Your homework is to answer the questions.  BUT DO NOT DO NUMBER 5!!!!!  Here’s the data table if you need it.

Learning Target – I can explain the Sun, Earth, and Moon relationship.

We took our vocabulary quiz for List 7 today.  Have to tell you that some of you need to spend a little more time on those words.  Grades weren’t as good this time.

Also started working on Open Responses with our new unit on Earth, Moon, and Sun.  We had just part of a question today on explaining their relationship.  Keep in mind, we will be doing one of these every day.
